How Long Does Car Delivery Take in the UK?

How Long Does Car Delivery Take in the UK?

One of the first questions we are asked is simple: how long will it take? The honest answer is that it depends on a handful of practical factors. Below we explain what shapes the timeline and how we book each movement to suit your dates.

What affects car delivery timing

Several things influence how quickly a vehicle can move from A to B.

  • Distance and route. A short cross-county hop is naturally quicker than a journey the length of the country. From our base at Woodview Farm in Stapleton, Leicestershire, we sit centrally on the UK motorway network, which keeps mileage and travel time sensible in most directions.
  • Driven vs transported. A vehicle that is roadworthy with a current MOT can be driven by one of our trade-plate drivers, which is often the most direct option. A vehicle that cannot legally be driven is transported on one of our transporters, which is scheduled around the load and the route.
  • Scheduling and notice. The more notice you can give, the more easily we can slot your collection and delivery into an efficient route. Same-week or next-day movements are sometimes possible, but they depend on availability.
  • Vehicle condition. If a car needs to be transported rather than driven, or has access or handling considerations, that can affect how it is scheduled.
  • Single vs multiple vehicles. Moving one car is straightforward. A batch of vehicles, or a fleet, is planned as a coordinated set of movements, which can change the overall timeline.

Driven or transported, and why it matters for timing

To be driven, a vehicle must be roadworthy with a current MOT. If it is not, it is transported instead. This is not just a rule we follow for compliance; it directly affects how a job is planned.

A driven movement can often be arranged quickly, with a driver collecting and delivering in a single trip. A transported movement is planned around transporter availability and the most efficient route, which can mean coordinating with other vehicles travelling in the same direction.

Either way, every movement is fully insured, and on driven jobs tax is covered for the journey.

How MDM books to your timeframe

We work to your dates, not the other way round. When you book, we agree a collection window and a delivery window with you, and we confirm collection and delivery times so you know what to expect at both ends.

  • We confirm collection and delivery times rather than leaving you guessing.
  • You receive a photo condition report at both collection and delivery, plus instant proof of delivery.
  • If your dates are flexible, we can usually schedule the movement sooner, because flexible dates are easier to fit into an efficient route.

That last point is worth repeating: flexible dates schedule fastest. If you have a hard deadline we will always do our best to meet it, but a little give on timing often means a quicker, more cost-effective movement.

Planning around busy periods

Demand rises at predictable times, month-end, quarter-end, and around new registration plates in March and September. If your movement falls in one of these windows, booking ahead helps us reserve the right slot for you. For one-off private moves the same applies: the earlier we know, the easier it is to give you a firm date.

Getting a clear answer for your move

Because timing depends on the specifics, the best way to get a realistic answer is to tell us the collection and delivery postcodes, the vehicle, and whether your dates are fixed or flexible. We will then confirm how the job would be scheduled and whether it would be driven or transported.
