A few minutes of preparation before collection day makes the whole process quicker and smoother. Use the checklist below to make sure your vehicle is ready when our driver or transporter arrives.
Documents and paperwork
Have the relevant paperwork to hand so nothing holds up collection.
- V5C (logbook) if it is travelling with the vehicle or needs to be referenced.
- MOT details. This matters because of how the vehicle will be moved: to be driven, a car must be roadworthy with a current MOT. If it is not, it will be transported instead. Knowing the MOT status in advance helps us confirm the right method.
- Any service history, handbooks or spare documents you want to travel with the car.
Keys
- Provide the main key, and the spare key if you have one.
- For keyless or electric vehicles, make sure any cards or fobs needed to access and start the car are included.
- If there is anything unusual about starting the vehicle, let us know.
Fuel or charge level
- For a driven movement, leave enough fuel in the tank for the journey, or a sensible state of charge for an electric vehicle.
- You do not need a full tank, but the car should not be running on empty.
- For an EV, a reasonable charge gives the driver flexibility on the route.
Remove valuables and personal items
- Clear out personal belongings, paperwork and anything of value.
- Check the glovebox, boot, door pockets and under seats.
- Remove or secure loose items such as parking permits, sat-navs and chargers unless they are meant to travel with the car.
Note any existing damage
Before the driver arrives, walk around the car and note any existing marks, scuffs or chips for your own records. Photographs on your phone are ideal.
This complements our own condition report. For every movement we capture digital photographs at both collection and delivery, so the vehicle’s state is recorded at each end and can be compared. Having your own note as well means everyone is working from the same clear picture.
Checks for a driven journey
If your vehicle is being driven rather than transported, a quick once-over helps it travel safely.
- Tyres at a sensible pressure, with no obvious damage.
- Fluids at reasonable levels, including oil, coolant and screen wash.
- Any warning lights or known faults flagged to us in advance.
If the car has an issue that means it should not be driven, that is not a problem, it simply tells us the vehicle should be transported, and we will arrange that instead.
Access for collection
Make it easy for the driver or transporter to reach the vehicle.
- Ensure there is clear, safe access to where the car is parked, especially for a transporter, which needs room to load.
- Move any obstacles and confirm where the vehicle can be collected from.
- Provide a contact number so we can reach you on the day.
- If the location has height, width or weight restrictions, or limited turning space, let us know in advance.
A smooth handover
With documents ready, keys provided, valuables removed and access clear, collection usually takes only a few minutes. We will complete the photo condition report, confirm the details with you, and you will receive instant proof of delivery once the vehicle arrives at the other end.
When you are ready to book, request a fixed-price quote and we will confirm everything you need for collection day.
